General practitioner appointments
Patients are encouraged to register with a particular doctor who will primarily care for their health needs. Appointments are available 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday. The appointments are 15 minutes in length, with 12 patients seen per session and an hour for paper work being allocated for GP’s per session.
GP’s are remunerated according to their qualifications and experience. We have between 2 – 4 GPEP’s training at any one time across our three practices.
Urgent care
If it’s an emergency and you or someone else needs immediate medical attention, then ring 111 straight away.
The Carefirst Group urgent care clinic is located at our Westown practice. Due to covid-19 and a shortage of GPs currently our urgent care clinic is open for shortened hours. We are open from 9:00am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday.
Patients from all our practices our welcome to access our urgent care services along with anyone in the community who isn’t enrolled with Carefirst.

We are located at 183 Powderham Street, New Plymouth. On the one way. (Previously located at Carefirst Medical Centre in Westown).
Call the friendly team at the clinic on 06 281 1698, or you can email reception@skinclinictaranaki.co.nz to make an appointment for a single or multiple skin lesion check, a full skin check or Mole Mapping.

Travel clinic (visitors)
The travel clinic (Westown) provides advice and information for travellers whilst abroad. It is designed as a ‘one stop shop’ for all travel health education, vaccinations, including yellow fever, and malarial advice.
Cancelling appointments
Please let us know as early as possible if you are not able to keep an appointment so we may offer it to someone else.
If you change your mind about keeping your appointment and fail to let us know, or cancel within an hour of your appointment time, then we will charge you for the appointment.

Urgent care
The Carefirst Group URGENT CARE CLINIC is located at our Westown practice, 99 Tukapa street. It is currently open from 8:30am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. All patients are welcome to access care in our Urgent Care Clinic, even if you are not enrolled with us.
